Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your next Portland Police Association President. Having worked for the Portland Police Bureau for the last 20 years, I have seen firsthand the strong work ethic, dedication to serve, and compassion within all of you who wear the PPB badge and answer our 911 calls. I am honored to be your new president and look forward to advocating and serving you and your families as you protect and serve our communities.
In reflection on his decade as PPA President, Daryl Turner consistently offered strong leadership; his vision and fortitude brought us to new levels within our community and our profession. We greatly appreciate the time and dedication he poured into our membership. As a Vice President on the PPA Executive Board, I was there with Daryl from his first day in office. I am thankful to have served under his leadership during the tough decisions, celebrating victories, and working through the processes of the job. Daryl and I both recognize that policing must continually evolve along with the needs of the communities we serve. At this historic moment of transition in our organization, our city, and our country, I will work to ensure your safety, to connect law enforcement and our communities, and to impact the conversation on policing in a dynamic way.
My goals for the future of the PPA are simple: to maintain the strong relationships we have built with residents, community organizations, community leaders, and business owners; to build new partnerships, relationships, and collaborations; and to hold our elected officials accountable for their words, actions, and decisions that affect the public safety of our City.
Stay safe and thank you for the work you do every day.
Brian Hunzeker, President
