PPA Members: Do You Need Umbrella Insurance Coverage?
Your PPA endorsed auto and home insurance provider can help you.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you may want to consider purchasing an umbrella policy.

  • Do you own more than one property?
  • Do you have a vacation home or rental property?
  • Do you have a swimming pool in your backyard?
  • Do you own a boat or other recreational vehicles?
  • Do you have inexperienced drivers in your household?

An umbrella policy gives you and your family another layer of liability protection above your existing auto and home policies. They protect your assets and future earnings if an unusually catastrophic event occurs. Increased litigation and the high cost of medical procedures demand that most people carry umbrella insurance.

With or without warning, accidents do happen. Protect yourself with a personal umbrella policy.

Can you imagine being sued for $1,000,000 because you were involved in an accident? How about $2,000,000? Or even $5,000,000? People like you are sued everyday. The truth is an unforeseen accident often leads to a large lawsuit that can cost you your life savings. Don’t assume your home, auto or boat insurance will protect you – often there just isn’t enough coverage.

Think it will never happen to you?

A 41 year-old periodontist suffered injuries to his face and fingers following a head-on automobile accident. A jury assessed the defendant damages of $578,000.

A 61 year-old woman tripped on a carpet inside the home of a retired advertising executive and his wife. She sustained major back injuries followed by numerous surgeries. Her claim was finally settled for $413,000.

An insured’s teenage son was driving his younger sister and her friend to the movies. He lost control of his vehicle, left the road and hit a telephone pole. The friend forever lost the use of her right arm and suffered severe head injuries resulting in permanent brain damage. The claim was settled for $1,350,000.

The reality of an unforeseen accident is very real and can lead to a lawsuit that can easily costing $1,000,000 or more. In addition, the defense costs for lawsuits can be overwhelming. It happens every day. And, it is more likely to happen to you if you own a home, a boat or have other sizable assets. In fact, you could be a prime target for such a civil lawsuit.

Investing today in a personal umbrella policy will provide you and your family with excess coverage above your basic homeowner’s personal liability and/or automobile liability.
