PPA Members: Do You Need Umbrella Insurance Coverage?
Your PPA endorsed auto and home insurance provider can help you.
If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you may want to consider purchasing an umbrella policy.
- Do you own more than one property?
- Do you have a vacation home or rental property?
- Do you have a swimming pool in your backyard?
- Do you own a boat or other recreational vehicles?
- Do you have inexperienced drivers in your household?
An umbrella policy gives you and your family another layer of liability protection above your existing auto and home policies. They protect your assets and future earnings if an unusually catastrophic event occurs. Increased litigation and the high cost of medical procedures demand that most people carry umbrella insurance.
With or without warning, accidents do happen. Protect yourself with a personal umbrella policy.
Can you imagine being sued for $1,000,000 because you were involved in an accident? How about $2,000,000? Or even $5,000,000? People like you are sued everyday. The truth is an unforeseen accident often leads to a large lawsuit that can cost you your life savings. Don’t assume your home, auto or boat insurance will protect you – often there just isn’t enough coverage.
Think it will never happen to you?

The reality of an unforeseen accident is very real and can lead to a lawsuit that can easily costing $1,000,000 or more. In addition, the defense costs for lawsuits can be overwhelming. It happens every day. And, it is more likely to happen to you if you own a home, a boat or have other sizable assets. In fact, you could be a prime target for such a civil lawsuit.
Investing today in a personal umbrella policy will provide you and your family with excess coverage above your basic homeowner’s personal liability and/or automobile liability. For example, if you have liability limits of $250,000, a personal umbrella can provide an additional $1 million of protection. Higher limits are also available if needed. A personal umbrella may also provide coverage for certain occurrences not covered by the underlying policies, such as libel and slander.
Your personal umbrella policy provides peace of mind in the event of:
- Incidents involving operation of most motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs and most watercraft.
- Incidents involving any property covered by your basic homeowner’s policy.
- Incidents involving slander, libel, defamation of character, invasion of privacy or false arrest.
- Defense costs, even if you are found not liable.
